My older sister has that disease and she hasnt had a surgery in many years. Now she has a long scar on her stomach from a surgery she had a very long time ago. Now she’s doing great and she doesn’t have any disabilities.
I would definitely think it would affect your job. As to the disability question you asked, I’m afraid I don’t know…but if your doctor says so…I don’t see why it wouldn’t go through.
Am curious as to whether you’ve tried any natural treatments for your Crohn’s? I became a natural health practitioner over 15 yrs ago, because I had Colitis. I dealt with it for about 6-7 yrs. I had had enough…It affected everything I did or wanted to do! I finally turned to natural options…pretty much just read up on as much as I could and doctored myself. (I also had some anxiety issues that came about from the colitis..and just made things worse!) Within about 8 months I was 75% better and after a yr or so…I was pretty much a normal person again.
Guess what I’m saying is you can treat it naturally…takes work yes….doesn’t happen overnight…but you will start seeing changes and getting relief if you stick with it. Feel free to email me, or find someone in your area to get you headed in the right direction.
I’ve had Crohn’s disease for about 5 years now and am currently in remission. I was on remicade but have been off all medication for about 10 months now due to a pregnancy. If I were you I would concentrate on getting your Crohn’s controlled instead of thinking that it’s hopeless and give up. I know there are MANY side effects that come along with Remicade but it does work. I have not started any medication yet but I am looking for other natural ways to keep my Crohn’s in remission…hopefully somethin works for me…and definately for you.
It’s not uncommon at all to go through this. Yes, it can affect your ability to work, but of course depends on the particular job. You’ll know whether your job is affected, and if it is, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be eligible for disability.
Try not to worry too much about what might or might not happen. Even with Crohn’s you can still have a fulfilling and enjoyable life. Spend some time finding out about how to manage Crohn’s and don’t let it determine what kind of life you live. There’s lots of info available online, for example http://crohnsdiseasetoday.com
